Here is a Brief History of Us
The
CLASSeminar
Over
twenty five years ago, Florence Littauer and her
daughter Marita put together the first
CLASSeminar.
They both had been traveling around the country
speaking at women's retreats, and meeting women
with exciting stories about what God had done in
their lives. These women were being asked to share
their testimonies at churches and women's groups,
but they didn't really know how to put their
messages together, how to combine the points with
the story, and incorporate Scripture. They were the
impetus for that first CLASSeminar which was
designed to help them communicate more
effectively.
Florence
and Marita intended to give this program only once.
However, those who attended that CLASSeminar went
home and told their friends what they had learned,
and in the next year, several more CLASSeminars
were scheduled throughout the country. Now, over
twenty five years later, each CLASSeminar has a
teaching staff of six to ten, plus Florence, and is
held several times each year in various locations
across the United States, training both men and
women to be effective speakers.

CLASS
Speaker Services
After
several years of seminars, the Lord began to make
another need clear. In a sense it was a twofold
need. First, people would call our office to ask
Florence to speak. When she was not available, the
voice on the other end of the phone sounded
panicked while asking, "Do you know anyone else I
could get to speak?" Second, we had now trained
thousands of men and women to speak. Many of them
were excellent and had experiences or knowledge
that needed to be shared. The problem was no one
knew of them nor their availability. This twofold
problem clearly fit together, and CLASS Speakers
(now CLASServices: Christian Leaders, Authors &
Speakers Services) was born. Today we are a valued
resource for churches and other groups, providing
gifted Christian communicators for retreats,
conferences, and seminars, to name a
few.
What
we do: When
a client contacts CLASS looking for a speaker, we
first find out all the information we can about the
speaking engagement: date, time, name of event,
sponsoring group, expected attendance, budget
available, etc. Next, we prepare and send a packet
which contains information sheets of several
speakers who may suit their needs. When they have
had some time to review this packet, a follow-up
call is made. Sometimes a group wishes to preview
demo presentations of speakers, so sample
recordings are sent. When the client is ready to
book a speaker, our office confirms the speaker's
availability for the event date(s) and then draws
up a written agreement between the client and
speaker. This contract spells out the sponsoring
group's financial obligations as well as other
needs such as a book table, preferred microphones
and room setups. We also require that a deposit of
20% or one hundred dollars, which ever is greater,
be sent in to CLASServices within 30 days of the
booking date. This deposit insures the client's
sincerity, virtually eliminates last minute
cancellations and helps to cover the costs of our
involvement in the booking process. The remaining
80% is presented to the speaker at the completion
of the event. When the signed agreement is returned
to CLASServices, we note the deposit payment in our
records and send the original contract to the
speaker, as it often includes additional details
about the event. The contract agreement includes
the speaker's phone number, so after the booking,
it is the client's responsibility to maintain
contact with the speaker for the rest of the event
(although CLASServices is happy to be involved if
there are questions or problems).
