John
Thurman is a Licensed Professional Counselor,
Marriage and Family Educator, Speaker, and Writer.
His
mission is to provide practical, reality-based,
hope-filled counseling, consulting, and training.
His clients have included churches, businesses, and
government and community-based agencies. He uses an
upbeat, high energy, direct style, combined with
truths from Scripture, to assist people in their
life's journey. John's teaching and training style
flow from his desire to see men and women have a
real-world relationship with God.
- John
is a regular guest on commercial FM talk radio
in Albuquerque, NM. Known as The Get A Grip
Guy!, John answers caller's questions about
kids, relationships, and work, while bringing
firm, practical, and compassionate advice on how
to find more purpose and happiness in life.
- John
is also a frequent guest on local Christian
television and radio. He has a recurring
segment, "Dear John," on Worldview in
Focus, a locally produced program in which he
responds to viewer emails in the areas of
relationships and mental health.
- John
also co-hosted Parent Talk with Dr. Kevin
Leman and Dr. Randy Carlson. He's been
interviewed by local television and print media
in the areas of Depression, Domestic Violence,
Anger Management, and Pastoral Infidelity.
- His
work in the field of Affair Recovery has been
featured on two local television stations. He
recently penned, "At the Mercy of 'Horrormones"
in Focus on the Family's, Plugged In -
September 2005. He's served as the clinical
reviewer for "I Felt Dead Inside," Campus
Life, November/December 2004.
Get
a Grip! is a series of classes developed by
John offering practical and biblically based
solutions to life issues. He has a Masters of
Divinity and a Masters in Counseling, and his
vocational journey includes work as a therapist,
Army Reserve Chaplain, associate pastor, and small
business owner.
John
has a private counseling practice affiliated with
Christian Therapy Services in Albuquerque, New
Mexico. Additionally, he provides both personal and
marriage coaching. John is an active member of
AMFM, the Association of Marriage and Family
Ministries, serving on the editorial team that is
developing resources for local church ministries.
He is also a clinical member of AACC, the American
Association of Christian Counselors, the Christian
Care Network, and the International Critical
Incicent Stress Foundation. He is endorsed as a
Chaplain by the North American Missions Board.
He
and his wife, Angie, have been married for over
thirty years and have two adult
children.

raising kids. John reviews the natural

with solid encouragement to be all that God wants

a Grip on Raising Teens
Have you found that raising teens can be a
challenge? Are you aware of the challenge it is for
kids also? John has shares over thirty years of
experience in working with teens and their parents.
This workshop is a practical, no nonsense approach
to parenting. Parents will learn seven principles
of raising kids; understand some of the differences
between personality styles; learn creative ways to
discipline. (Good for any setting with parents
of teens and preteens as a full day conference or a
weekend retreat)
Understanding
Your Love Talk Style
This unique series is designed to help couples
increase their communications styles. John uses a
communication assessment created by Drs. Les and
Leslie Parrot that helps both men and women
understand their personality styles and how to
communicate more effectively. Understanding Your
Love Talk Style is hands on and very practical,
there is an additional fee per couple for the
online assessment. (This series is for married,
engaged and seriously an can be an all day
conference or a weekend retreat)
Developing
a Bulletproof Heart: Building Resilience into Your
Life
People in your church and business routinely feel
depleted and discouraged. The five principles that
are discussed in the Bulletproof Marriage workshop
and in the Bulletproof Heart workshop will give
hope, encouragement and a practical plan to help
attendees develop a resilient faith. This series
will also help them develop a sense of purpose and
